Catalina Triathlon Update #1

The 2007 Catalina Island Triathlon is just over a week away! We are looking forward to this year-end triathlon and hope you are too. As you gear up for the coming week and finalize your travel plans we have a few very important updates that we would like you to keep in mind.

The most important update is the new enforcement of MANDATORY COURSE BRIEFINGS. Pebbly Beach Road remains closed to all traffic (pedestrian and vehicular), due to the risk of potential landslides. In addition to the 2006 closure of Pebbly Beach Road, Catalina Island was also hit fire and flooding in 2007. Due to the significant impact these events had on the City of Avalon, mandatory briefings are going to be enforced this year to ensure the safety of the Catalina community and our competitors.

MANDATORY BRIEFING INFORMATION
For your safety and the safety of all competitors and local residents we are going to need to ensure that every single athlete understands the course, the rules of the road, and City of Avalon emergency procedures. The course briefing is absolutely mandatory. NO EXCEPTIONS. Race packets will not be distributed until the briefing has been attended. Each briefing will last approximately 20 minutes. Think of it as a pre-race pep talk and coaching session.

Briefing Times:

- Friday, November 2nd (4:00pm, 5:00pm, 6:00pm, 7:00pm, 8:00pm, & 8:30pm)
- Saturday, November 3rd (7:50am)

Briefing Location:
The Landing Restaurant (Friday)
Wrigley Stage (Saturday)

** If you plan on being in Avalon by Friday, it is highly recommended that you do not wait until Saturday morning to attend the briefing.

EXPO, REGISTRATION & PACKET PICK-UP (NEW LOCATION!!!)
The Expo, Late Registration and Packet Pick-Up will be at the Landing Restaurant Bar & Grill from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday and on Wrigley Stage from 6:30 am to 8:30 am on Saturday. The Landing Restaurant is located in the El Encanto Market Place overlooking beautiful Avalon Bay. Follow Crescent Ave (the frontage road) all the way through town just past Villa Portofino to reach The Landing.

COURSE UPDATES
The 2007 course is very similar to our 2006 course with a few minor updates. Please visit our website for updated course maps and course descriptions.
