Catalina Triathlon
Competitor Update #2
Dear Competitors,
Are you ready for the 2007 Catalina Island Triathlon?! We definitely are and can’t wait for the fun to begin. With only a few days left before race day, here are a few more notes to take in to consideration.
WEATHER AND WATER TEMPERATURES
Sunny days ahead! The weather forecast shows a low of 60 in the morning and a high of 80. The current water temperature is 65 degrees. Wetsuits are encouraged but not required.
START TIME PUSHED BACK TO 9:30am
Good news! You have another half hour at your disposal prior to the race start. Sleep in. Grab that extra cup of coffee. Take your time setting up your transition area.
In order to ensure that we are not conflicting with a popular golf tournament that takes place in Avalon on the same day as our race, we are pushing back our start time and they are moving up their tee time to give the golfers plenty of time to get to the greens Saturday morning. The fewer golf carts there are on the roads, the happier you will be when you begin your cycling adventure up Avalon Canyon Rd. This will also give competitors traveling to Avalon on race day plenty of time to attend the course talk, pick up their packets, get body marked, and set up in transition.
WAVE START TIMES
9:30am – Elite Men & Women, Men 34 & Under
9:33am – Men 35-44
9:36am – Women 44 & Under, Athenas
9:39am – Men 45-54, Clydesdales
9:42am – Women 45 & Over, Men 55 & Over
9:45am – All Relays
DON’T FORGET – COURSE TALKS ARE MANDATORY
For your safety and the safety of all competitors and local residents we are going to need to ensure that every single athlete understands the course, the rules of the road, and City of Avalon emergency procedures. The course briefing is absolutely mandatory. NO EXCEPTIONS. Race packets will not be distributed until the briefing has been attended. Each briefing will last approximately 20 minutes. Think of it as a pre-race pep talk and coaching session.
Briefing Times:
- Friday, November 2nd (4:00pm, 5:00pm, 6:00pm, 7:00pm, 8:00pm, & 8:30pm)
- Saturday, November 3rd (8:00am) ** Pushed back 10 minutes
Briefing Location:
- The Landing Restaurant (Friday)
- Wrigley Stage (Saturday)
** If you plan on being in Avalon by Friday, it is highly recommended that you do not wait until Saturday morning to attend the briefing.
EXPO, REGISTRATION & PACKET PICK-UP
The Expo, Late Registration and Packet Pick-Up will be at the Landing Restaurant Bar & Grill from 4:00pm to 9:00pm on Friday and on Wrigley Stage from 6:30am to 8:30am on Saturday. The Landing Restaurant is located in the El Encanto Market Place overlooking beautiful Avalon Bay. Follow Crescent Ave (the frontage road) all the way through town just past Villa Portofino to reach The Landing.
